A presented by the Japan Association of Chain Drug Stores (JACDS), the 2016 drug store sales nationwide was JPY6.4916 trillion, which is an increase of 5.9 % from the previous year. The figure increased for the following reasons: more concentration was given on food products, increasing inbound demand from overseas travelers, and increasing number of stores.
Furthermore, since April 2015, the number of FFC (Foods with Function Claims) products has grown and is likely to go over 1,000 products in 2017. Each drug store is planning to create a specific area for FFC products between this spring and fall. The shelves at the area will be categorised according to body parts, functions, components and brands.
